A chance encounter with an old sea dog, the legend of a fantastic treasure, - Thus begins an epic adventure for the 7 keys of the 7 seas - a daring battle against the Royal Navy, sea monsters, a Witch Queen and Blackbeard himself! While multiplayer therefore offers more promise, it fails to deliver. Typically, you navigate through levels on a linear path, often at liberty to simply bypass enemies rather than face them down. Intelligently for a game of this nature, the levels are kept of a consistent size and duration. The shipwright option costs only a relatively trivial amount of gold, which is fairly ubiquitous and can be stockpiled across levels. Although this game could have existed in various guises, it manages to convincingly incorporate the art of sailing large ships into battle. As they conquer enemies and recover lost treasure, players can upgrade their ships and crew. Dual screen Not the greatest use of the touch screen and whilst the bottom screen initially appears to be just another game map it does actually have a more involved function. The end-of-level sea monsters are reused, forcing you to fight them over and again, and each stage is a series of corridors to be tackled in a very linear way, with no exploration or choice of route involved. The rather thin plot is laid out between levels in a series of illustrations accompanied with generic pirate prose, but the artwork itself is of decent quality. Cookie-cutter levels, uninspired enemies, and disastrously executed resource management elements leave the one-player game adrift, while the multiplayer mode does not provide the quick and easy thrills required to buoy this particular sinking ship. © , 1999 - 2019. Steel yourself to face foes that no captain has ever bested before, in this perilous adventure of the enchanted worlds. Or more accurately, making your way down what look like flooded corridors, taking out enemy ships, cannon turrets and end-of-level sea monsters as you go. They are generally more than willing to join your crew and enhance your abilities although you will have to fork out some gold, which does seem a little unfair, as their other option is to remain stranded in the middle of the sea.

This is a great game for who. There are rewards for destroying enemy ships along your way, such as gold or new crew members that enhance your ship's abilities, but these appear with insufficient frequency to induce players to destroy a majority of the enemies that appear. Built on strictly functional graphics and controls, Pirates' game design ultimately fails to deliver an experience dynamic or intense enough to maintain interest in its single-player story mode, while its technically-restricted multiplayer mode is a further let-down. The sound design is sparse to the point of desolation; without music to accompany the action during a level, there are just a few weapon fire effects and seagull noises left to carry the aural load.
